The Municipality of Bluewater has evolved from the amalgamation in 2001 of the former Villages of Bayfield, Hensall and Zurich and the Townships of Hay and Stanley. It is a community of 6700 people, located in western Huron County and represents one of nine municipalities within the country structure.
The Bluewater economy is influenced by the broader regional economy in terms of jobs and overall economic activity. However, the vital importance and role of agriculture, agri-business, tourism and lakeshore development are central to the community’s economic base and represent key dimensions of Bluewater’s heritage and culture. The community also has a strong foundation of community organizations, service providers and others, that along with Municipal Council and volunteers, contribute significantly to an excellent quality of life that retains many of the residents in the area and has attracted significant numbers of new residents to the area over the years.
