Bluewater Wins 4 Blooms For A Second Year
BLUEWATER WINS FOUR BLOOMS FOR A SECOND YEAR

The Municipality of Bluewater is proud to announce winning the Four Blooms rating from Communities in Bloom Ontario for a second consecutive year!

The Bluewater Blooms Committee was highly successful this past week at the Awards Ceremonies for Communities in Bloom Ontario! The 4 Bloom Rating is a very high level of achievement in the Provincial program. This is the second year the Municipality of Bluewater has achieved 4 Blooms.

The Bayfield River Valley Trail Association also won Special Mention. Congratulations to this committee for all of its hard work!

Provincial Judges Kristen McIntyre and Marie Huxter remarked, “The partnership has benefitted Bluewater well, the volunteers are as effective as hired staff! We were impressed to learn that an adjoining landowner to the Sawmill Trail provided the materials and built a viewing deck on this property for hikers. The neighbor also maintains the upper half of the trail.”

Chair Kay Wise indicated “When you raise the bar, it’s tough to stay there.” Chair Wise expressed gratitude to members of the Bluewater Blooms Committee for their enthusiasm for the program.

The Provincial Judges commented community pride and involvement are evident in Bluewater. They noted such groups as the Bayfield River Valley Trail Association, Bayfield Heritage Committee, Bayfield Croquet Club, Zurich Bean Festival, Pioneer Park Association, Horticultural Society, Master Gardeners, Legion and Kinsmen Club.

Provincial Judges McIntyre and Huxter travelled throughout Bluewater in July 2011 to meet with residents, community groups and to score the Municipality on eight categories.  They indicated that the Natural and Cultural Heritage Conservation category was where Bluewater excelled once again. High ratings were also received in the Urban Forestry category thanks to volunteers involved in the Bayfield Tree Project and the Blooms Committee’s Trees of Bluewater pamphlet.
